Frequently Asked Questions
Looking for a web design agency to build your nonprofit website? online presence? recurring donations? army of volunteers?
Looking for a specialist web design agency to build your next nonprofit website?
We’ve been building websites for nonprofits and for businesses for a bit of a while now and we’ll use the knowledge we’ve gained to make your experience a great one while we help you achieve awesome results.
You’ll probably have some questions so we’ve tried to answer some of the most common questions here but do feel free to contact us if you need to ask something else.
I’ve never had a website before, where do I start?
Don’t panic, we’re here to walk you through it. You can find out how it all works in our process http://huxo.co.uk/our-process/ section.
The first thing to do is to make sure you’re the type of people we love to work with, to make sure we’re a good fit for each other. Does it look like we’re a good match? Great! Now we’ll ask you to complete our website brief. This helps us to get an idea of what you’re trying to achieve and how it is we can help.
How much will a new website cost?
We don’t offer off-the-shelf website design packages, we consider the needs of your business before giving any quote. The cost of your website can vary depending on a number of factors, just like a car or a house. Most of our website projects tend to start at around £4000 and range upward depending on your requirements.
You’ll also need to factor in any ongoing costs for renewing software licences and for regular website maintenance.
I’m ready to become a client, how do we get started?
If you think you’re ready to get started you’ll need to complete our website brief.
Once you’ve provided us with all of the information we need, if we think we can help you achieve your goals and that we’re a good match, we’ll put a proposal together outlining the work we’ll carry out for you and how much of an investment we require.

How quickly can you build and launch my website?
A simple website could be live in as little as 4-6 weeks from start to finish but each build varies depending on the size of the website, the readiness of your content and on the various functions required.
Do I need a domain name, what is that?
If you think of your website as a car, your domain name is like your registration number (license plate if you’re across the pond).
You’ll need a domain name for your website. Your domain name is your address on the internet and would typically be something like yournonprofitname.org or yourbusiness.com
If you’ve not got your domain already, we advise clients to use Crazy Domains to register their domain.
What is hosting and why do I need that?
So, if your domain is like the registration plate (license plate) on a car, your hosting is like the fuel that runs the car.
Web hosting is a computer inside a data centre that is connected to the internet 24/7. The host stores and runs your website and allows others to view it.
How do I setup a domain name and hosting?
We can point you in the right direction of our preferred reputable domain registrars and hosting providers, or you can find your own. We’re happy to work with your existing supplier to get things setup.
Feel free to shop around to find the right service to suit your needs and budget but for quick, simple, and usually the cheapest domains we use Crazy Domains and for hosting we’d recommend you use specialist WordPress hosting from either WP Engine or Flywheel or if you’re on a tighter budget use SiteGround.
I already have a domain, can I use it for my new site?
Yes, we can help with moving this for your new website.
Will my website be mobile-friendly?
Yes, every website we build is designed to meet Google’s mobile-friendly requirements. Your website will be designed to work on all devices.
I want to sell things, do you build ecommerce websites?
Full ecommerce stores for shops and online retailers, no. We focus on doing what we do best, building goal-focused websites for nonprofits and purposeful businesses.
However, as some of our clients do sell merchandise and services online, we do build small online stores to sell digital and physical products.
What is a Content Management System?
A Content Management System allows you to easily edit and add to the content of your website yourself, without the need for any coding skills. A CMS allows you to add pages, blog posts, images, or products to your website. No additional software is required – all you need is access to the internet.
Do you provide any training?
Yes, as a client you’ll be provided with a WordPress website training manual on how to edit and add content to your website as well as how to maintain it. As part of your website care package you’ll also get access to our library of WordPress tutorial videos.
Do you offer ongoing support and maintenance?
Yes, all of our clients are given access to our support centre and have the opportunity to sign up for one of our website care plans to take care of ongoing website maintenance as well as security monitoring and ongoing assistance to help you get more from your website.
Can you help me with online marketing?
Yes, we can include monthly social media management, content marketing, and email automation services as part of your website project.
Will my new website be on the first page of Google?
No. Let’s not beat around the bush. Whilst we will build your website with search engines in mind to help you get the best possible results from the off, Search Engine Optimisation is an ongoing process and getting to the first page of the search engines for certain keywords will not happen overnight. We can implement an ongoing SEO campaign to help you achieve the best results.
What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?
Search Engine Optimisation is about getting your business found through certain keywords or terms. The higher up the search engine results you are the more visitors to your website you’ll get.
Getting to the top of the search results depends on a number of factors, and one of those, arguably the most important, is the wording on your website. The copy should be relevant, well written and include keywords but should be written for your visitors rather than the search engines.
Having a well optimised website regularly updated with quality content will do wonders for your search engine ranking.
Can you write the copy for my website?
You are expected to provide your content. Whilst we don’t directly write your copy, we’re happy to advise on small amendments to your own copy to help you achieve better results in the search engines. We also work closely with a small number of expert copywriters and can include this in your quote as part of your overall project.
Do you provide images for my website?
We prefer to use genuine photos of your products and services rather than stock images where possible. However, we can point you in the direction of our preferred stock photography libraries or arrange for a professional photographer to take high quality photos for your website.
Can you design me a logo?
We tend to stick to what we do best, building websites and putting the strategies in place to grow your profits. We are happy to put you in touch with some of the specialist graphic designers we’ve worked with in the past.
