Restaurants With No Website Are Missing Out On Business

Restaurants With No Website Are Missing Out On Business

Google’s own figures have shown that searches for restaurants have increased year after year yet approximately one third of restaurants in the UK still have no website at all. This potentially costs an estimated £31,000 per year on average.

Making a restaurant booking online or with a mobile device is the norm for many, while others still prefer the more traditional method of placing their booking over the phone, often after checking out the website of their chosen eatery.

How do you find somewhere new to eat? I know I turn to Google when trying to find somewhere new to try.

Have a look at this screenshot below. I searched for ‘Restaurants in Coventry’ and this is the first page.

These aren’t necessarily the BEST restaurants in Coventry, but each of those listed has a website and most have an active online presence through social media.

A 2013 study from the European Dining Index from LiveBookings found that the UK restaurant industry receives more than £126M worth of business through online purely through online reservations.

Colin Tenwick, Livebookings’ chief executive said “Restaurants not making use of online, mobile and social bookings is almost tantamount to adopting a no children policy. They shut themselves off to roughly the same amount of potential business.”

“A significant proportion of customers looking for a restaurant start their search online or on mobile. Almost all other consumer-facing sectors, including retail and travel, have radically changed their marketing strategies to respond to that, and now it’s time for all UK restaurants to do the same.”

As more and more people turn to the internet to find local goods and services and a younger generation grows up Googling anything and everything they need then surely it’s time to get your business online?
